In Connecticut, there has been a rise in homelessness increasing 13% from 2021-2022. Several contributing factors include the economic burdens from the COVID-19 pandemic, inflated costs of rent, severe housing shortages, and increased costs of groceries. The housing and homeless services through the Coordinated Access Networks (CAN), partners with the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DHMAS) eligible heads of households and individuals experiencing homelessness.
Over 490,000 Connecticut residents are struggling with hunger. The Connecticut food share supports all individuals and families in the state suffering from hunger by creating community-based programs. Some of these opportunities include food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters that help to provide nutritious foods to those in need.
The overall goal of the United Way of Connecticut is to assist with the needs of its residents by providing the education, information and connection to services necessary.
